Ms. Lauren Bylsma is an epidemiologist with over a decade of experience conducting epidemiologic research in the fields of pharmaceuticals, nutrition, cancer, environmental health, occupational health, and rare diseases. She regularly leads and supports epidemiology studies using real-world data and innovative methodology to fill research gaps and update the state of the science, including natural history studies and patient identification algorithms of rare disease patients. She has conducted dozens of systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses synthesizing scientific literature on human health issues in various therapeutic areas, including oncology, hematology, and rare diseases. Ms. Bylsma is skilled at calculating robust estimates of incidence and prevalence to support regulatory documents, market size projections, or commercialization strategy. She has supported all aspects of epidemiologic study conduct, from study design and protocol development to complex analytical interpretation and manuscript writing. Ms. Bylsma also routinely conducts critical appraisals of epidemiologic evidence using standardized techniques.
Ms. Bylsma has taught public health foundations and capstone courses in the Department of Public Health at Calvin University and has presented work at conferences across research settings, including the American Society of Hematology, European Society for Medical Oncology, Society of Toxicology, National Organization for Rare Disorders, International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, and International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.
